Governor Message
The Governors of Moulton John Harrox School are a diverse group of volunteers from the local community, bringing a wide range of skills, experience and expertise to the role. Our purpose is to help ensure that the school is run effectively by setting its strategic direction and acting as a critical friend to the Headteacher. Our responsibilities cover many aspects of school life, including educational standards, finance, health and safety, and staffing.
All governors are members of the Governing Body and are expected to attend six meetings each year, typically one per half term. During these meetings, governors receive reports from the Headteacher and from governors who have undertaken monitoring visits within school.
Each governor is linked to an area of the School Development Plan and monitors progress against key priorities. These priorities are closely aligned with school improvement objectives and areas identified by Ofsted. Some governors also take responsibility for specific compliance areas. We work closely with the Headteacher and school leaders to monitor progress and ensure continuous improvement across the school.
An important part of our role is engaging with pupils, one of the school's most important stakeholder groups. Governors meet with children to gather their views and understand their experiences of school life. We also speak with staff to gain their perspectives. The findings from these discussions are reported back to the full Governing Body and help to inform future decisions and actions.
As the role of the Governing Body is strategic, individual governors are not able to address concerns relating to individual pupils. Any concerns should be raised in the first instance with the class teacher or relevant Key Stage Leader. We encourage parents and carers to communicate any concerns with the school as early as possible.
Whilst governors are not involved in individual pupil matters, we are keen to engage with parents and carers as key stakeholders in the school community. Your views and feedback help to inform our work and the future direction of the school. Governors contribute regularly to the end-of-term newsletter and attend a range of school events throughout the year, including Harvest Festival, Nativity performances and other celebrations.
Parents and carers are welcome to write to the Governing Body at any time with suggestions, comments or concerns relating to governance matters. Correspondence should be addressed to the Clerk to Governors via the school office.
