John Harrox Primary School

Starting School In Reception

Thank you for taking the time to view our website.

We understand the huge decision you are making for your child, starting school is a major life stage, and as parents, you of course want the best for your children.

Here at the John Harrox Primary School we provide the best start for your child’s education. We understand the importance for your children to feel safe and happy in the environment in which they will learn. All our staff understand this, and are dedicated to ensuring children are settled and happy in school.

The school recognises that a good start to school is vital if your child is going to do well.

We feel that the education of your child is a shared responsibility, and we try hard to make the start of school as trouble free as possible.

Under normal circumstances we hold open days which allow you to view the school. Please use the link above to view our virtual tour. We will also be able to accommodate viewings of our school by appointment. Please contact the school office on 01406 370426 if you would like to arrange a visit.

During the Summer Term prior to your child starting school we hold two meetings for parents so that we can explain how you can best help your child to prepare for their new experiences and routines. All new parents will be given a Pre-school Information Booklet, together with a booklet to share with your child. We also invite your child to spend time in school to become familiar with their new surroundings and the staff. First impressions count, especially to four year olds, so it is important that the children are made to feel special and to look forward to the new school year. It is an important time in their young lives and we do all that we can to make it right. In addition, there are several events during the summer terms such as sports day to which you and your child are invited to attend.

The John Harrox School has an annual intake. This means that children who will be 5 between 1st September and the following 31st August, can be admitted to the Reception Class (Foundation Stage) at the start of term one in September.

To apply for a place for Reception intake in September 2024 please complete the online form via the link below.

All our admissions go through the Local authority as our admissions authority.  Admissions will open on 15th November 2023 and close on 15th January 2024.
